Chris Hearn

Chris started his training at the age of 7 doing shotokan karate
to which he continued for a few years winning a few kata
competitions on the way. Leaving at the age of 13 then bit
by the martial art bug he went looking for a new class.
He tried a few styles but nothing seemed to suite him.
Then at 15 whilst on work experience found out about a
Ju-Jitsu class running he joined and never looked back.
After a few years of training with Sensei Nick brooks
and Sensei Barry Harte he found out that his most
favourite part of the art was ground fighting.
A few other students were interested in this as well,
so Nick started a class just for ground fighting only,
on Saturday mornings. Getting more and more into he met,
through Nick, joao santos (purple belt under royler gracie)
and discovered the Roger Gracie Academy. After meeting a
few time he decided he would like to go to Portugal to
train and so he did for 5 weeks training 6 days a week 2 times a day.
This really improved his technique no end. After getting back from
Portugal he decided that he would like to compete a bit in ground fighting.
He holds the 2004 London open championship, 2005 Gracie invitational championship,
and competed in many more (see fight record).
He is currently holding a blue belt under Roger Gracie and is teaching the
Tuesday class at the Watling Sports Centre.
